Day 100: 30th June 2020

Unlock 2 guidelines released

In view of rising Covid-19 cases, most existing curbs such as the ban on reopening schools and colleges, as well as multiplexes, gyms, and bars, and the operation of Metro rail services, have been maintained. However, the most important part of the order issued on Monday night is that the Centre has taken away the right of states to seal their borders.

The good news…

For the second day today, the number of cases in India saw a fall. Though it is too early to conclude anything, one can still be happy about it! However, no such luck for the hard hit cities of Delhi and Mumbai!

Flu virus with ‘pandemic potential’ found in China

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has “all the hallmarks” of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring.

We don’t need another pandemic…we aren’t over this one yet!! Let’s hope and pray for the best.

See you on Sunday. Until then try and stay home and stay safe.

  1. Last night or night before on BBC World Radio there was some discussion of things happening in Chennai. It was something like 3am our time and all I remember is that the conversation was about that location.
